F.A.S.T. VirtuWell™ Training Course

Who Should Attend: The F.A.S.T. VirtuWell ™ software course is designed for both junior and senior technical personnel. It is assumed that participants have a basic working knowledge of reservoir and production engineering concepts.

General Notes: 1 Day Course. Basic Windows navigation skills are recommended prior to attending.

Course Description

Students begin the course by becoming familiar with the main features of F.A.S.T. VirtuWell™. They are then shown various aspects of the software in more depth by following along with worked examples and sample case studies. The student will learn the various multiphase calculations, their limitations and applications and how to determine pressure profiles that are complicated by changing phase behavior. The worked examples allow students to become familiar with wellbore modeling and to recognize opportunities for wellbore optimization. The examples will be discussed as they are completed.

Course Topics
  • Wellbore Pressure Losses
  • Liquid Loading
  • Tubing Performance Curves; Tubing Selection
  • Absolute Open Flow (Wellhead and Sandface)
  • Inflow Performance Curves
  • Reservoir Model
  • Gas Lift Optimization
  • Multiphase Pressure Drop Correlations
Course Instructor
Ivan Olea, B.Sc. M.Sc.
Ivan holds a B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from the National University of Mexico (UNAM) and a M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary. He has previous experience in the modeling of oil and gas wells, and is currently involved in the development of F.A.S.T. VirtuWell™, solving and analyzing complex multiphase flows. In this course, Ivan will cover some fundamental theory and use the software in the solution of practical engineering problems.
Tara Bobocel, C.E.T.
Tara Bobocel has worked primarily in Fekete’s pipeline optimization group since 2001. Much of this experience relates directly to VirtuWell™ with many of the projects including wellbore modeling and analysis of flow under varying conditions. Class attendees will benefit from Tara’s hands-on experience with the software and her ability to diagnose potential for wellbore optimization.
