Who Should Attend: The course is designed for new and existing F.A.S.T. Piper™ users to get exposure to the new GIS interface in version 6.0. The course deals with surface hydraulics only; for those would like to discuss aspects of future forecasting and deliverability, they should attend the 3 day public course, or arrange a 2 or 3 day course at their office.

General Notes: 1 Day Course. Basic Windows navigation skills are recommended prior to attending.

Course Description:

F.A.S.T. Piper™ 1 Day Course

The release of version 6.0 and the new GIS interface have resulted in reduced time required to build/modify a gas gathering system. Users will find a dramatically different interface which requires a new workflow. This course is designed to teach users how to use the onscreen editing tools and various imports (image & shape files, data) along with a specific workflow for data entry. This course will focus on software usage, navigation, data requirements, data input and basic modeling strategies.

The objectives of this course are to familiarize each participant with:

  • The new capabilities of F.A.S.T. Piper™
  • Importing maps and data
  • Construction of the surface facilities using on-screen editing tools
  • Geographical referencing of previously built models
  • Designating pipeline loops
  • Model calibration techniques (i.e. identify stagnant liquids)
Course Topics:
  • Geographical referencing of facilities in F.A.S.T. Piper™
  • Building gathering systems using the on-screen editing tools & imports
  • Pressure loss correlations
  • Modeling process
  • Model calibration procedures and examples
Course Instructors:
Lane Olafson, P. Eng.
Lane is a senior technical advisor at Fekete, and has worked with the F.A.S.T. Piper™ development team for two years. Lane completed his Mechanical Engineering Degree at the University of Calgary, where he graduated with honours. He has over 10 years of experience in fluid flow analysis and design. Lane brings a broad range of design experience and technical expertise to the F.A.S.T. Piper™ team.
Tara Bobocel, C.E.T.
Tara Bobocel is a project technologist at Fekete and specializes in the optimization of gas gathering systems using F.A.S.T. Piper™. She completed the Petroleum Engineering Technology program at SAIT and has worked at Fekete since 2001. She uses F.A.S.T. Piper™ on a daily basis to evaluate optimization potential for clients. Tara has modeled numerous gas gathering systems, producing as much as 400 MMcfd.
