F.A.S.T. CBM Training Course

Who Should Attend: The F.A.S.T. CBM™ course is designed to help both junior and senior technical personnel gain a brief yet solid understanding of coalbed methane theory. The focus of the course is to familiarize users with using F.A.S.T. CBM™ software for reservoir engineering applications.

General Notes: 1 Day Course. Basic Windows navigation skills are recommended prior to attending.

Course Description

The course begins with a brief review of the theory involved in Coalbed Methane reservoir engineering to complement proficiency with the software. Participants are familiarized with the fundamental concepts of coalbed methane. Topics such as coal structure, storage mechanisms and transport mechanisms are covered and differences between coalbed methane reservoirs and conventional reservoirs are highlighted.

Participants then become familiarized with the main features of F.A.S.T. CBM™. They are shown various aspects of the software in more depth. To gain hands-on experience, participants are encouraged to follow along with a series of software examples and sample case studies. The examples allow participants to become familiar with the reserve determination, history matching, and gas and liquid forecasting.

Open discussion of CBM™ methodology and Fekete's F.A.S.T. CBM™ software are encouraged.

Course Topics
  • Langmuir Isotherms
  • Gas-in-Place and Reserve Recovery Calculations
  • Material Balance Techniques (King, Seidle, Jensen and Smith)
  • History Matching
  • Forecasting Gas and Liquid production
  • Matrix Shrinkage
  • Numerical Modeling
Course Instructor
Kamal Morad, Ph.D., P.Eng.
Kamal Morad is a senior technical advisor at Fekete and is responsible for development of F.A.S.T. CBM™. Kamal graduated from the University of Calgary and has been with Fekete since 2004. He uses F.A.S.T. CBM™ on a daily basis in a variety of projects for reserve evaluation, production data analysis and optimum well spacing. His F.A.S.T. CBM™ course covers both coalbed methane theory and software application so that the participant understands the various aspects of coalbed methane operations.
